What to Expect
Revitalize Your Skin with LED Light Therapy at The Pur Health
Light Therapy for a Healthier Skin
LED Light Therapy at The Pur Health, meticulously overseen by Sabeen Munib M.D., is a non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to promote skin health and rejuvenation. This therapy harnesses the power of light-emitting diodes (LED) to treat various skin conditions, including acne, signs of aging, and inflammation, offering a painless and effective solution for enhancing the skin's appearance.
Light Therapy for a Healthier Skin
The procedure involves exposing the skin to low levels of red or blue light. Red light is known for its anti-aging benefits, as it penetrates deep into the skin to stimulate collagen production, reducing wrinkles and improving skin tone and texture. Blue light targets the bacteria responsible for acne, helping to reduce breakouts and calm skin inflammation.
Dr. Munib customizes each LED Light Therapy session to the patient's specific skin concerns, ensuring optimal results. The treatment is safe for all skin types and does not involve UV rays, making it a gentle option for skin rejuvenation. Sessions typically last between 20 to 30 minutes, with patients experiencing little to no discomfort.
Patients can expect to see improvements in their skin condition with a series of treatments, as LED Light Therapy is most effective when performed in a series of sessions. There is no downtime required, allowing patients to return to their daily activities immediately after the treatment.
By incorporating LED Light Therapy into your skincare regimen at The Pur Health, you benefit from Dr. Munib's expertise in delivering advanced, non-invasive treatments designed to improve your skin's health and appearance. This therapy offers a therapeutic and rejuvenating experience, leaving you with a brighter, clearer, and more youthful complexion.

Is LED light therapy the same as red light therapy?
Yes. Red light therapy is one setting of LED light therapy. The same treatment can use red light, blue light, or both, depending on what you want to treat.
LED light is low-energy visible light. It does not use UV light and it does not wound or peel the skin, so there is no downtime.
Red light
Used for skin texture, redness and calming the skin after other treatments.
Blue light
Used for mild, inflamed acne. Blue light acts on the bacteria involved in acne breakouts.
Red and blue together
Often chosen for acne-prone skin that is also red or irritated.
LED vs IPL vs photodynamic therapy: which one are you looking for?
These three names come up in the same searches, but they are different treatments.
LED light therapy (here at The Pur Health)
Gentle light, no heat injury, no downtime. Best thought of as a supporting treatment for skin health.
IPL photofacial
A stronger light device that heats brown spots and small red vessels. At our sister practice it is done on the Candela Nordlys platform by Dr. Munib.
Photodynamic therapy (PDT)
A medicine is painted on the skin first and then activated with blue light. It is a prescription treatment for precancerous spots called actinic keratoses, and it is not the same as an LED session.
Does LED light therapy work for acne?
LED light can help as an add-on for mild to moderate acne, mostly the surface bumps. It does not reach deep, painful cysts well.
For most people it works best next to a proper acne plan, not instead of one. Dr. Munib can look at the whole picture, including skin care, hormones and prescription options, at a regular visit.
Looking for a stronger light treatment for brown spots, redness or sun damage? See Light & Bright IPL at Spectrum Skin Clinic, our sister practice with the same physician.

Call (949) 647-5234What Is LED Light Therapy
LED light therapy is a skincare treatment that employs varying wavelengths of light, including red and blue, to target different skin concerns. The therapy is known for its ability to stimulate collagen production, reduce inflammation, and kill bacteria, without damaging the skin's surface.
How Does LED Light Therapy Work
The therapy works by emitting light wavelengths deep into the skin layers, where they exert different effects. Red light is used for its anti-aging benefits, as it helps stimulate collagen production and reduce inflammation, leading to smoother, firmer skin. Blue light targets the bacteria that cause acne, making it effective for treating and preventing breakouts.
What Are the Benefits of LED Light Therapy
Benefits include improved skin tone and texture, reduced signs of aging (such as fine lines and wrinkles), decreased acne, and lessened appearance of scars and dark spots. It's also used for soothing inflammation and promoting faster healing.
Is LED Light Therapy Safe
Yes, LED light therapy is considered safe for most people and does not contain UV rays, which can be harmful to the skin. It's suitable for all skin types and colors. However, individuals with certain conditions, such as photosensitivity, should consult a healthcare provider before beginning treatment.
How Long Does a LED Light Therapy Session Last
A typical session lasts between 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the device used and the area being treated. For best results, multiple sessions are often recommended, usually spread out over several weeks.
How Soon Can I Expect Results From LED Light Therapy
While some individuals may notice improvements immediately, most treatments require a series of sessions to achieve noticeable results. Improvements in skin condition and appearance can become more apparent after several weeks of consistent use.
Can LED Light Therapy Be Combined With Other Treatments
Yes, LED light therapy can be combined with other skin treatments, such as facials, microdermabrasion, or chemical peels, to enhance overall results. It's often used as a supplementary treatment to support the skin's healing process and maximize the benefits of other therapies.
Are There Any Side Effects of LED Light Therapy
LED light therapy is generally well-tolerated, with minimal side effects. Some individuals may experience slight redness or irritation immediately after treatment, but these symptoms typically subside quickly. It's important to use the therapy as directed to avoid potential side effects.
Who Should Avoid LED Light Therapy
While LED light therapy is safe for most people, those with active skin rashes, photosensitive epilepsy, or who are pregnant should consult a healthcare professional before starting treatment. Additionally, it's recommended to discuss any existing skin conditions or concerns with a dermatologist to ensure LED light therapy is suitable for you.
How Can I Start LED Light Therapy
To begin LED light therapy, consider consulting with a dermatologist or skincare professional who can recommend the appropriate type of light therapy for your skin concerns. Many spas, dermatology clinics, and even at-home devices offer LED light therapy treatments, making it accessible for those looking to improve their skin health
How much does LED light therapy cost in Irvine?
The price of an LED session is shown in the booking window before you book. LED is a cosmetic service, so plan on paying for it yourself.
How many LED sessions will I need?
LED works as a series, not a single visit. Dr. Munib suggests the number and spacing based on what you are treating, and changes usually show over several weeks.
Does red light therapy help with fat loss or body sculpting?
The LED sessions here are for the skin, not for fat loss or body shaping. If body contouring is your goal, our sister practice, Spectrum Skin Clinic, offers body treatments.
Is an in-office LED session different from an at-home LED mask?
Both use the same kind of light. An office visit adds a physician's look at your skin and a plan for how LED fits with the rest of your care.
Can I have LED light therapy on the same day as a facial or peel?
Often yes, because LED is gentle and is commonly added after other skin treatments. Tell us what you had done recently so the timing can be checked.
Can teenagers have LED light therapy for acne?
Possibly. The practice sees patients from age 12, and Dr. Munib first checks whether a teen's acne needs medical treatment, which often works better on its own or alongside LED.
